Section 75 Claim: A second route to resolve your dispute.
What is a section 75 claim?
Part of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, this UK law makes your credit card provider jointly liable with the retailer if goods are faulty, not as described, never arrive, or the seller goes out of business.
It applies to purchases costing £100 – £30,000, even if you only paid a small part by credit card. If the retailer refuses to help, you can claim directly from your card company for a full refund or compensation – it gives you extra legal protection and a second route to get your money back.
Perfect for your furniture claims: if you paid any part on credit card and your item is defective, you can use this alongside our expert report to make your claim stronger.

When does it apply?
This protection applies automatically when:
- The total cost of the item is between £100 and £30,000 (this is the full price, not just the amount you paid on card)
- You paid any part of the cost by credit card – even just a small deposit or part‑payment (e.g. paying £50 on card for a £1,500 sofa means the entire £1,500 is protected)
- You used a credit card, store card, or credit agreement (note: this does not apply to debit cards or prepaid cards)
- Purchases made in‑store, online, or even from overseas retailers, as long as delivery is to the UK
When would you use it for furniture?
You can use a Section 75 claim in all the situations where our inspection service is most useful, including:
- Your furniture arrives damaged, faulty, or with obvious poor workmanship
- The item does not match the description, quality, or photographs shown at the time of sale
- It breaks, fails, or develops faults within a reasonable time
- The retailer or manufacturer denies there is a problem, refuses a refund, repair, or replacement, or offers an unfair solution
- The company you bought from has closed down or stopped trading
- You need independent, expert proof to prove your case and challenge the seller’s decision
Section 75 vs Chargeback – what is the difference?
It is important to know the difference between these two protections:
- Section 75: This is a legal right, giving you full protection for purchases between £100 – £30,000 bought on credit. Card providers are legally bound to consider your claim.
- Chargeback: This is a voluntary scheme offered by card providers, available for debit cards and credit cards. It applies to amounts under £100 or over £30,000, but is not a legal right and offers less protection than Section 75.
What you need to make your claim
What you need to make your claim
To make a successful claim, you will need to provide clear evidence to your credit card company. This includes:
- Proof of purchase (receipt, invoice or order confirmation)
- Details showing you paid at least part of the cost using your credit card
- Photos or videos showing the issue or damage
- Copies of any emails or letters you have exchanged with the retailer
- Our independent expert inspection report – this is the most powerful part of your claim. It provides professional proof of what is wrong, what caused it, and confirms whether the issue is a genuine defect or covered under your consumer rights.
